Knysna residents puzzled by UFO

KNYSNA. - The mystery of the "unidentified flying object trailing smoke that seemed to plunge into the sea behind the Knysna Heads1 has still not been solved in spite of an intense NSRI2 search and police investigation.

The local police station commander, Warrant officer ? ? Meiring3, said that it was "definitely not a plane”.

The mystery started about 6.20pm on Wednesday when various reports were received of a "flying object" which seemed to be long and grey and trailed smoke.

It dived and, according to some observers, "hit the water behind the Heads," and then disappeared.

Because of the number of independent reports received an exhaustive search was started by the NSRI.

The NSRI rescue launch found nothing after a long search in poor visibility and choppy seas.

Mr. Geoff Sinovich, the NSRI station commander said the NSRI had now closed its investigations but the matter was in the hands of the local police.

Mr. Meiring said that the object could be part of a satelite (sic) or "some of the other junk from space exploration".

The following was sent to George Filer of Filer's Files #50 – 2005. George A. Filer, Director MUFON Eastern Region December 7, 2005,

Note: the only reason I include these photos here is for the landscape and the coincidental occurrence of sightings in the same place. This particular case has nothing to do with water other than its location. -CF-

KNYSNA HEADS – It's me Cecilia. I'm sending you a photo my Husband took in January last year in Knysna. He was on Knysna Head when he took this. When we got back town and had the film developed we saw this object that I'm sure is a UFO. I made it big on the computer and saw its very round with a perfectly black round spot in the middle underneath.
