Go Back Report # 923

BERLIN N.H. — Two Berlin residents saw what may be described as a "sighting" on Thursday night.
George Hamanne of 70 Hinchey St. said he saw a "bright light which lit up half the mountain" around 9:30 p.m. He said the light was on Mt. Forist -- a solid mass of mountain that spills down on the west side of the city.
Hamanne said he and his whole family viewed the burning spectacle which he described to be "about three feet in diameter". He said the snow melted in the area of this object, and the glow lasted for about five minutes.
The other person who sighted what may be the same phenomenon was Mrs. Winifred Suffil of 22 Gerrish St. She said she spotted something that; looked like the "moon, but all lit up."
City Police said they received only one report of the sighting, that one from GeorgeHamanne.
