UFO Is Spotted on James River

An unidentified flying object was spotted about 8:30 p.m. Saturday by Chad Rayfield, 17, Ferguson High School senior, and several friends.

Rayfield gave a vivid description of the object which he said was spotted by his party at the James River Country Club.

He estimated it was about three times the size of an automobile, very bright, and moving speedily across the water.

The object was shaped like a triangle. At the base of the triangle was an orange light, and there was a white light in the apex of the triangle.

"We were sledding when we spotted it, and then we ran down to the bottom of the hill to get a closer look at it," Rayfield said.

"It was moving across the water in the direction of Richmond. At first we though it was a boat, but we called the bridge and was informed there wasn't a boat in that vicinity.

Young Rayfield said the object made no noise, and it was visible for about 20 minutes.
