Sights mysterious object . . .

AMOS BIGGS, the hermit of the Snowy Mountains, reported yesterday that he spotted a "strange contraption" hover and then light on the ice on Crystal Lake about two weeks ago. He said the object cast a brilliant, almost radiant light as it hovered over the lake and finally dropped to the ice in the black stillness of the night. Biggs said the object appeared to be silver in color, was saucer-shaped at the bottom with a slight oval compartment at the top. Biggs said a door mysteriously appeared in the oval part of the saucer but nobody got out. The object remained on the lake for about 10 minutes, then the door closed and the saucer raised (sic-rose) from the lake1 and disappeared into the east. He said he detected only a light buzzing from the object while it was in motion.

LOOKING BACK TWENTY-FIVE YEARS--
By Bob Gribble

February 1963:

Amos Biggs reported that he spotted a "strange contraption" hover and land on the ice on Crystal Lake near Lewiston, Montana, on the 22nd. He said the object cast a brilliant, almost radiant light as it hovered over the lake and finally dropped to the ice in the black stillness of the night. Biggs said the object appeared to be silver in color, was disc-shaped on the bottom, with a slight oval compartment at the top. Biggs said a door mysteriously appeared in the oval part of the object but nobody got out. The object remained on the lake for about 10 minutes, then the door closed and the object raised (sic-rose) from the lake and disappeared into the east. He said he detected only a light buzzing from the object while it was in motion. That same night and about 100 miles to the southwest, an object described as "a strange red ball of fire" startled a Belgrade resident, Bill DeHann, about 2:30 a.m. as he was driving home from work. Telephones were reported as "jingling" in many Belgrade homes at the same time as the UFO was seen. Many residents were awakened at this hour "by something." DeHann said the "strange red ball" shook and swayed his car when it landed about 200 feet from the vehicle.

NOTE #1: The unfortunate thing here is that there is no mention of the condition of the ice after the craft left or the thickness of the ice (which supported the craft) in the rest of the area of the lake.-CF-

NOTE #2: This is based on the publication date of the newspaper which clearly states above that the sighting was “about two weeks ago.” If we hold him to exactly two weeks, the date is 02-23-1963. Therefore, the date of the 22nd is reasonable. –CF-
