Danes Believe Unknown Sub Is Deep in Greenland Fiords

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Dec. 12 (AP) – The Danish Defense Ministry said today that an unidentified submarine was believed to be operating deep inside Greenland’s fiords under cover of the long polar night.

The report—following a protracted, fruitless hunt last month for what was finally said to be an unidentified foreign submarine in a Norwegian fiord—was based on observations by Greenland fishermen in the Disco Bay area on Dec. 7 and 9. The bay is on the west coast of the outlying Danish territory.

The Danish Defense Minister, Kjeld Olesen, informed the Government of the observations at a Cabinet meeting. There was no indication that any major search for the submarine was under way.
