Greenish Vapor Seen Near School

KODIAK (UP) A dazzling red ball of fire trailing a weird greenish-yellow vapor flashed over Kodiak Monday night, a Kodiak policeman reported to Navy headquarters yesterday.
Kodiak patrolman John Boucher, 28, said he saw the fiery object while on patrol on Mission Road, site of a new school, at 10 p.m. Monday.
"I turned to go past the school when all of a sudden the whole area lighted up as if someone had turned on field lights," Boucher said.
"I jerked my head around just in time to see a flaming red ball whizzing out of the east. It skimmed about 50 feet over the school. It was trailing greenish-yellow vapor. Then it disappeared.
“I attempted to radio the report to police headquarters but there was interference on my car radio. It was a steady ‘dit-dit-dit’ that went on for about two full minutes after I spotted the object. Jan Bueckers, the guard at the jail, noticed the interference, too.”
   The strange object was
also reported by two Kodiak school girls, Janet Torgamsen and Dolores Gallagher.
Official Navy comment today on the report was noncommittal.
The Navy admitted receiving the report but said no Navy observer had sighted the object.
