On March 12, Orville H. Mitchell attended the popular flying saucer convention at Giant Rock in Yucca Valley. During the convention, he became intrigued by several curious-looking small clouds in the clear blue sky. The clouds themselves weren't particularly unusual. The strange thing was, they kept appearing and disappearing in the same place. On an impulse, Mitchell snapped two photographs.
At the time, he didn't see anything. But once the photographs were developed, he was shocked to see four self-luminous, delta-shaped objects hiding in the clouds. While they weren't visible to the naked eye at the time the photographs were taken, Mitchell's camera apparently had the proper film and filters to capture what the eye couldn't see. Mitchell used a 4" x 5" Speed Graphic camera with a Wollensak Raptar f4.7 coated lens and a Wrattan A filter. The film was Super-X. The photographs were later printed on the cover of Saucers magazine.130
