Mrs. Peggy Johnson, Clearview
We were living at Seacliff during 1967, and on July 26 I had occasion to walk round the front of the house. I was looking out towards the sea when I saw this bright, egg-shaped object in the sky. The light coming from it was so intense that it was almost blinding like the flame from a welding machine. It also cast a strong beam down onto the water, as it was over the sea at the time. I called to my husband and son, aged thirteen, and we watched it together while it hovered there for twenty-five minutes or more. My son thought it looked like a gyro.
We were about to telephone the newspapers when it started to pulsate, turning blue, white and then orange, then fading to a deep red, before it tilted and made off at great speed. It definitely seemed to be intelligently controlled and was only a few hundred feet above the surface of the sea.
