Go Back Report # 1345

A Mysterious Object.

TIMARU, Sept. 16.

Some shepherds who were recently burning tussocks1 on the edge of Lake Pukaki, in the Mackenzie Country2, state that about dusk in the evening they observed a large black object, which they at first took to be a boat, keel upwards. On approaching it, however, it turned round, and dashed into the water, making a great splash.
