UFO Rises Out of River

It's possible that the fireball and the disc-shaped objects are one and the same thing. In my one venture into the Amazon, in July, 1981, I met Noemi Rodrigues, twenty-eight, who had seen a UFO in both forms. A tall, dark-haired woman, she taught first and second-grade pupils in Santarém. She had seen a UFO on two occasions, both just several weeks before I talked to her.

Her first sighting was on June 20 and the second on July 1. Both occurred when she was a passenger on an overnight boat from Alenquer to Santarém, a trip of about eight hours.

“The first time [June 20] was about two o'clock in the morning,” Noemi said. “Everybody else was sleeping in hammocks on the deck but I couldn't sleep because the rocking of the boat bothered me. I was standing at the back of the boat when I noticed a big ball of light about a thousand meters behind the boat, zigzagging from one side of the river to the other. It didn't come close to the boat. Then it disappeared. I didn't say anything about it to anybody. I asked the pilot if another boat was behind us but he said there wasn't.

“The second time, [July 1] I saw the UFO come out of the river. I was standing by myself at the back of the boat again, between midnight and one o'clock. When the saucer left the water, it was not very bright, so I could see the shape. I could see water dripping off it, draining, and it was disc or saucer-shaped, like a plate.

“It was about a thousand meters behind the boat and it rose up maybe six meters. It was big, maybe a meter and a half wide or more. Then it got very bright and looked like a ball of fire. It began zigzagging back and forth like the other one did. It was going so fast it made me sick. I was very frightened, too frightened to say anything to anyone. Then it disappeared. It dimmed out to nothing.”

Thus, the dull-red disc-shaped object flared into a brilliant light that looked like a ball of fire. Is it possible that the ball of fire that most people see conceals within its fiery aura a disc-shaped craft? Maybe.

Note that the straight-line distance between Santarém and Alenquer is 34.5 miles according to Distancefromto.net: http://www.distancefromto.net/

However, the river path between the cities is a large “>” shape which would almost double the distance, therefore causing the greater traveling time. It is my opinion that the witness was traveling round trip between these two points, as the date difference was only 12 days between the two sightings. –CF-
