Subject: UFO / USO sighting in July 1970 near the Cape Breton Canso Strait Causeway, Nova Scotia.

[Note - The Canso Causeway crosses the Strait of Canso (or Canso Strait), connecting Cape Breton Island by road to the Nova Scotia peninsula].

I was a closet UFO believer BUT after watching you and others on this UFO / USO History Channel hour-long program earlier today—I am now a true believer because you validated what I saw that night in early July of 1970 near the Canso Strait on Cape Breton Island. I just saw you on the History Channel, the "USO" hour-long show from 2005 or ‘06 in which you were featured. I finally had something tangible to tell and prove to myself that I did not imagine (or as I satisfied my mind by convincing myself that what happened to me while working in Nova Scotia was all a "DREAM" ) and that I AM not crazy.

I have never told anyone this story.

While working as a Start-up Field Engineer on the old Gulf of Canada big refinery at the front ocean side of the Canso Strait—I used to drive up to the highest point reachable by road at the time (within 5 miles of the refinery complex, again facing the ocean) usually after midnight to get good radio reception from Boston to listen to the baseball scores as I was a big Pirates fan at the time. 99 % of the time one or more of my associates came with me but this particular night I was by myself. I was half asleep playing with the car radio to get the station's reception—when no more than 200 to 300 yards in front of me out from the ocean shoots at a very steep angle a bright reddish-orange glowing cigar-like object about 100 ft. long and say 20-30 ft. in diameter at its center. When it got up in the air a couple hundred ft., I swear it shook itself to shed all of the sea water. Then it came toward me on the shore and hovered right above me. I was scared and dove to the floor of my car so it looked like no one was in the car, I hoped. After a lifetime to me, it finally shot away up into the night sky at a high rate of speed with a combination high shrill whizzing with a loud lower tone buzzing sound.

Needless to say, I quickly drove back to the motel near Port Hastings on the Trans-Canada Highway where I was staying. I never went back to that spot again, and even after not finding another good radio reception spot. I had to read the ball scores 2 weeks late when the Boston Sunday edition newspaper got up to us.

This incident memory of that clear and bright night has been roaming around in my mind for all of these years. I often wonder what I could have seen by looking up at this UFO instead of hiding on the front floor of my car with my eyes tightly closed. After this happened, I believe I have seen UFOs in the night sky two more times—once here in western PA around 1986~'87 wintertime and another time in the western suburbs of Knoxville, Tenn. near Oak Ridge maybe in the early fall of 1995.
