A Reservoir Encounter
The witness, John Falk, has a background in engineering and had never before witnessed a UFO or experienced any type of paranormal phenomenon. On March 19, 1983, he was driving home from work on Route 100, passing by the New Croton Falls Reservoir, located in Westchester County. It was two in the morning and the road was quite deserted. Suddenly, John noticed a dark mass hovering above the water, completely still. At first, John didn’t think too much of it because he was on his way home from work and was very tired, but something told him this object’s behavior was quite unusual. John pulled his car over to the side of the road and turned his lights off. He sat in his car for several minutes and watched the object as it hovered no more than fifteen feet above the water, in total silence. The object was much darker than the light-polluted sky, so he was able to see that it was triangular in shape and very large. He was about five to seven hundred feet from the UFO and was parked near Muscoot Farm Park, which at the time was a very dark section of road.
After several minutes, John noticed the object starting to move. When it did, a row of red lights appeared up and down the chevron of the triangle. John told me the color of the lights was very similar to that of a helium-neon laser (a very bright red) and he was amazed at how pure the red came through. The object then began moving very slowly around the water, and as John rolled down his window, he was amazed that any aircraft of that size could move so slowly without making a sound. John wondered if this strange craft might be some type of experimental government doing research in the area, but decided this thing was not of this Earth. How he knew this, he doesn’t know. He told me, “It was just a feeling that came over me while I watched it move and saw those lights; I knew it was not of human design.” He got out of his car, walked through a wooded area, stood at the reservoir’s edge, and watched as the object slowly drifted towards him. The UFO was now no more than two hundred feet from him, and he was able to see it was made up of some type of very dark gray material. The object seemed very smooth and he could not see any joints or sections. Except for the red lights, most of the object was dark, but John could also see a faint red glow that seemed to come from the underside of the UFO, reflecting off the water.
As he continued to watch the UFO, a car approached the reservoir area. As the car’s headlights came closer, the lights on the UFO went out; all that was visible was a dark mass which would have been barely noticeable from the road. As the car passed, the lights on the object lit up again and the UFO resumed its sweeping behavior over the water, which it repeated three more times during the twenty-minute sighting.
The object came to within a hundred feet of him and stopped. The UFO then began moving to John’s left, making very slow, circular motions. John could still see the red glow from the bottom of the “massive ship.” Then without warning, the object projected a thin red beam of light John says looked like a laser beam. This laser came from the underside of the object and shot into the water below. The object shut off the beam, moved to another location, and repeated this behavior. After several minutes of this “beaming” behavior, the UFO moved quickly back to the center of the reservoir, where it hovered. The object floated silently for not even half a minute, when all of its lights went out. Then, the object emitted a blinding burst of white light that seemed to be directed at John, knocking him to the ground. The next thing he remembers is getting up from the ground—but it was no longer dark. When he got to his feet, John noticed it was daylight. Sure enough, his watch told him it was just after eight o’clock in the morning. John is sure that the entire sighting was only twenty or so minutes long, yet he lost consciousness for several hours after being hit by the UFO’s light beam. John’s wife told me that during the next couple of days, her husband seemed distant and disoriented. It’s my opinion that John had a contact experience, but to what extent, I’m not sure; John himself would rather forget about the entire incident than find out what happened during those missing hours.
