LIMA - Vacationing in South Padre Island, Texas, Tom Bowman said he witnessed what he said he believes was a UFO. He said he saw two green circles with what he called an eyebrow over the circles.

"It just hovered there for about five seconds and then it just went down into the bay," he said. "No splash, no sound, no crash, no nothing."

He went to the Coast Guard to check it out and found out it wasn't one of their night missions.

Bowman held a lecture Thursday evening at New Creation Lutheran Church discussing his study of UFO sightings and his own encounter.

South Padre Island was Bowman's first sighting but he said he's been fascinated with the subject of UFOs since the 1951 movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still."

"This gets you into astronomy and all kinds of research," he said. "It's a fascinating field."

Bowman said he doesn't think all UFOs have to do with aliens. He said some may have to do with government projects.

"It's not necessarily extraterrestrial. It could be military development," he said.

Throughout his lecture, Bowman described documented encounters people shared with him and those he read about.

The sighting you are apparently referring to occurred on Jan 8th, 2006 at South Padre Island, Texas in the early evening, just after dusk. While walking back to a restaurant on the Laguna Madre Bay I saw what appeared to be two large green circles with what might be called an eye brow, also brilliant green, stationary in the sky approx 30 to maybe 35 degrees above the horizon. No movement and no sound.

From E-mail 11-05-07: Here is an illustration of the object I saw on Jan 8, 2006 at South Padre Island Texas. As mentioned earlier it hung motionless for 5 to 10 seconds and then just went down like an Elevator moves downward. Consistent movement; no jerking around, nice and steady and no sound.       T. Bowman

After maybe 5 to 10 seconds the objected appeared to fall in a slow decent into the bay, no splash, no crash, no sound whatever.

I checked with the Camp ground office and the Coast Guard Station on the Island and no one had any info on the event. The Coast Guard does on occasion have night time missions for rescue but none that night so I was told that had it have been a chopper I would have certainly have heard it.

This and additional info on the sighting are on file with the UFO Museum in Roswell, NM and with Bill Jones the Ohio director of MUFON in Columbus Ohio.

Further clarification of the location, via e-mail dated Oct. 29, 2007 by Mr. Bowman:

CARL: Laguna Madre bay is between Port Isabel and South Padre Island at the causeway bridge at Port Isabel. I think South of the bridge is the area called South Bay which is the inlet area from the Gulf to the Bay and on to Brownsville. My sighting was between what is now the KOA Campground at the south end of the Island and the Bridge. The entrance to the campground is .4/10's of a mile from the Causeway and I would say the thing I saw was 2/10's of a mile from the entrance or half way to the Causeway. Hope this helps.......Tom

From E-mail 11-05-07: This illustration shows the plan of the area on South Padre where the sighting occurred. Port Isabel to the top [east] with the Island on the lower part of the drawing. The red rectangular shows the location of the object as it related to the campground and the causeway Bridge.
