PORT HURON, Mich. (INS) — Reports of a mysterious "bluish-green flaming object" were being investigated today off the east coast of Michigan in Lake Huron.

Port Huron Patrolman, James Dravelin, first reported the strange object at 4:09 a.m. while patroling (sic) the north side of the city. He said:

"It looked like a bluish-green flame trailing smoke and it dropped into Lake Huron about five miles north of the Blue Water Bridge."

TWO TRUCK drivers in the area also reported seeing "some kind of fantastic object" in the vicinity of the bridge.

A Great Lakes freighter also reported seeing "something green" on the water about eight miles north of the bridge.

The U.S. Coast Guard asked ships in the area to use their radar to try and locate the thing. A daylight search by the Coast Guard has failed to produce any hint of a solution to the mystery.

None of those reporting the flying object used the name "flying saucer." The Coast Guard had no further comment.
