Am 14. Juni 1978 beobachtete der Kapitän Günther Ehlers, 45, wie viele andere Hamburger auch, ein großes funkensprühendes Etwas über der Hansestadt. „Am südwestlichen Himmel", notierte der Kapitän in sein Schiffstagebuch, „zwei übergroße Himmelskörper beobachtet – vermutlich Sternschnuppen, die in die Elbe stürzten." On June 14, 1978, the captain Günther Ehlers, 45, as well as many other people living in Hamburg, observed a large sparkling (like a 4th of July rocket) something over the Hanseatic league city. "In the southwestern sky", noted the captain in his ship log, "observed two oversized celestial bodies – probably meteoroids, which fell into the Elbe." (Bild [German tabloid], 22 June 1978, quoted in CENAP reports 263, 1999, Page 17)
