Go Back Report # 1003
08-MM-1964

08-MM-1964

Part of a cover letter by the person who forwarded the report to The J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS):

I am also enclosing a report given me by Mike Finello that I subsequebntly (sic) corroborated as true to the testimony of Gary R.... He and his brother were out on a lake at four in the morning heading for a fishing spot when the craft he described descended suddenly and entered the water very slowly, remained underwater for a while (he could see the glow in the depths of the lake), then emerged very slowly and, once it was free of the water, accelerated rapidly and had the appearance of a star once again in a matter of seconds. My interview with him has all the hallmarks of a middle-aged guy remembering an anomalous event from more than thirty years ago that had been indelibly imprinted on his mind and imagination. One of the most interesting aspects of the incident is that his brother, who was in the boat with him, refuses to talk about it, dismissing it as "that thing with the shooting star or whatever." Strangeness.

2 – Yellow cards with brief story of U.F.O.

As we left the shore from the boat landing at Channel Inn Tavern, the fishing trip was on its way. All our tackle & rods in place, soda to drink, and sandwiches to eat, and a bag of potato chips.

Our goal was to reach the north bay of Upper Nemahbin Lake near the sunken island. We knew from past trips the bass would be in that area.

About 2:40 a.m. we started drifting with ores back in the boat and grabbing our fishing poles. I looked into the ski (sic) and was admiring the brilliant array of stars and the full moon.

Then it happened; we saw a shooting star that wasn’t a shooting star, but an unusual bright object getting closer & closer to the lake we were in. This object swirled through the ski (sic) with minimum of effort and entered into the deepest part of the lake about 1,000 yards from us. The spacecraft entered silently into the water at about [a] 75° angle with very little disturbance of [the] surface [of the] water – no wake at all. The craft was still visible to us because its lights were on around the whole spacecraft, from what we could tell maybe 15’ to 20’ down under the surface of [the] water.

We watched for at least 10 seconds this unbelievable thing parablel (sic-parallel) to [the] top [of the] water, then all of a sudden it came out slow and easy at the same approx. 75° angle, the brilliant showcase of glowing light throughout the craft. Without any real disturbance to surface water, it aimed to the stars up high in a sweeping motion. In about 5 to 7 seconds, it blended in with the rest of the stars as bright as they were. My heart was going to town & I wondered if this was for real or was I dreaming. My brother didn’t say much about what happened or even if we both witnessed the same strange occurrence. This was deafinitly (sic) a U.F.O. and took place the month of August 1964 in Delafield, Wisconsin, on Upper Nemahbin Lake.

There might be more detail than what I wrote down but this is the major part of this incident that early morning fishing trip.
